The Gospel of John: That You May Believe

Gospel of John Study Guide

The Gospel of John was written with a clear purpose: to help us see who Jesus truly is and to believe in Him.

John tells us:

“But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”
— John 20:31

The Gospel of John is different from Matthew, Mark, and Luke. John does not simply tell us what Jesus did. He helps us understand what those signs mean. Again and again, John points us to the glory of Christ, the identity of Christ, and the life that is found only in Christ.

In John, Jesus is the eternal Word made flesh. He is:

  • the Lamb of God,
  • the Bread of Life,
  • the Light of the World,
  • the Good Shepherd,
  • the Resurrection and the Life, and
  • the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
