Mission Statement

What’s It Mean? is a Bible teaching ministry devoted to helping people understand the meaning of Scripture and the truths of the Christian faith. Through clear explanations of biblical words, passages, and questions, the goal of this ministry is to help readers grow in their knowledge of God’s Word and in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

Drawing on more than three decades of pastoral preaching, teaching, and counseling, these resources are written to make the message of the Bible understandable and practical for everyday life.

About the Author

Dr. Alan Holden has served in Christian ministry for more than 35 years as a pastor, teacher, and counselor. Throughout his ministry he has been committed to helping people understand the message of the Bible and apply its truths to everyday life.

Dr. Holden earned a Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Counseling from Luther Rice Seminary, a Master of Divinity in Biblical Studies and Preaching from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Classical Greek from Furman University.

He has served churches in New York, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, preaching and teaching the Scriptures and helping congregations grow in their understanding of God’s Word.

In addition to pastoral ministry, Dr. Holden served as President and CEO of the United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties in Florida, where he worked with community leaders to expand services and strengthen local ministries.

Through What’s It Mean?, Dr. Holden seeks to explain the meaning of Scripture clearly so that believers can grow in their faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Our Approach to Scripture

We believe:

  • The Bible is God’s Word and speaks with clarity when read carefully, which is a core belief about our approach.
  • Context matters—historical, literary, and theological. This conviction is about understanding the bigger picture.
  • Faith is not a blind leap, but informed trust in what God has spoken. That’s what genuine belief is about.
  • Good teaching should bring understanding, confidence, and worship. Clearly, this is about serving the faith community.

We are committed to faithful interpretation, not trends or sensationalism. Our process is about sound study, not entertainment.
